Bangkok on a budget

Central Bangkok begins at Siam BTS station and covers Siam Square and the districts of Pratunam, Ploenchit and Ratchathewi. This area is great for shopping where you can go on a Siam Shopping Adventure.

There's lots of religious and cultural stuff here too, including the Erawan Shrine that is famous for it's Thai Dancers that grant wishes to those who ask. The world famous Jim Thomson House can be found not far from the National Stadium BTS station. Also, arguably the best shopping mall in Bangkok called MBK is well worth a morning of bargain hunting.

Check out the skywalk between Siam and Chit Lom BTS stations where you'll have access to over a dozen different shopping malls in one place. If you fancy watching a movie, check out the Paragon Cineplex for one of the world's best value cinemas.

Head north a little towards Greater Bangkok and you'll find Victory Monument. There's some nice local bars in this area as well as some great markets. You'll also be able to pickup mini vans here to places like Ko Samet, Kanchanaburi (River Kwai) and Ayuthaya.

If you're not already staying here, this area is best reached by the BTS and MRT transport systems. Siam BTS station or Phaya Thai MRT station.
