What is Pantip Plaza?
What's at the Siam Center
This is where you'll find all your hi-end shops selling Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana and so on. Don't expect to get anything cheaper than back home. It's a myth to think it's cheaper in Thailand for designer clothes. Anything with a label will cost pretty much the same and, of course, there's no haggling in these high street shops..
Apart from a few products like shoes (not designer), most consumables, including electronics, will cost the same as back home. If you're looking for a bargain, you're better off browsing the many markets in the city.
Most foreigners tend to dress light anyway. Since the heat and humidity is fierce, who wants to be walking around in a suit and tie, if they don't have to?
On the ground floor: There are several, expensive, food halls and market kiosks and a gourmet supermarket, which, in my opinion, just means less food for more money.
However, if you're looking for something special to buy then this is the place, but don't expect a bargain. If you want to take something back home with you, you might be better off buying it in your own country. Especially if it's something like a dress or a dinner jacket that might get ruined in your suitcase.
Thai people love money and they enjoy perceived status, even if that means paying lots of money for something they could get down the market at a fraction of the cost, and this shopping centre caters for that.
