For some real kickass brutality check out Lumphini Stadium on Ram Intra Road. This is where many of the Thai locals prefer to go for an evening of 'real Thai kickboxing' every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday night.
Most nights the events start at 6.30pm and end about 11.00pm, though the fights tend to get better as the evening progresses, so you may want to get there a bit later.
However, I would make sure you leave in plenty of time because Bangkok traffic is notoriously bad, and you'll have to either drive yourself or get a taxi. Best reached by BTS Mo Chit station. From there you'll have to hail a cab and expect a two hour journey. Having said that this is where you'll see some proper head bashing - if that's your thing.
Prices are a bitch if you're a falang. locals pay 200 baht but foreigners are charged 1000 baht so you'll really have to be a fan to visit this place, but it's the best. Avoid the 2000 baht ring side seats because you can get the same view for the 1000 baht seats.
A closer alternative is Ratchadamnoen Stadium which is within walking distance of Democracy Monument - www.rajadamnern.com
